EXISTING BLOG REVIEW

A BROKEN BACKPACK BY MELISSA GIROUX

A broken backpack is a travel blog for people with
 "Tiny Budgets and Huge Dreams".

I chose to give a review on this blog because this blog provides ways to travel around the world with a small budget.

Design of the blog

The design of this blog makes it easy for readers to select what they want to read about specifically and provides readers with an easy way to access the directory. Another aspect of this blog that I like is the short and understandable introduction to the blog.

Contents of the blog

The contents of this blog are mainly about places the blogger has travelled to and suggestions to readers about what they can do in those places. The blogger has written her contents short and easy to understand.

Besides being easy to understand, her blogs are also very informational. She also provides information about affordable accommodations based on her experience.

Why I like this blog?

I like this blog because of it's motive to inform people who think travelling cost's a lot of money that it really doesn't and that if you have huge dreams, you should go for it no matter the barriers you face.

An Interesting Topic For This Week

Weird Hotels Around The World

Today we're gonna be looking at different places around the world that have weirdly creative hotels.

1.Magic Mountain Hotel, Huilo Huilo Reserve, Chile.

The pictures above show that this place has the essence of nature. It is shaped like a little mountain. It has an amazing interior, as you can see in the picture above. The Magic Mountain Hotel covers 60,000 hectares of the Valdivian forest.  This hotel also has natural hot springs, unexplored lakes, and direct access to the Mocho Choshuenco volcano. This hotel has a waterfall cascading down from the peak of the roof to the secluded forest lodges. What is weird about this hotel is their choice of design for this place and also the location. It seems almost magical like its name.

2. Giraffe Manor, Nairobi, Kenya.

The Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi's iconic buildings. At first glance, you may think it is an ordinary building, but you're gonna want to sneak a peek inside the building just like the giraffes. This building harks back to the 1930's when Europeans first came to enjoy safaris. Whats weird about this hotel is that they have a friendly herd of Rothschild giraffes that resides there. This offers people to have a friendly interaction with the giraffes and spend quality time with family and friends there too.

3. Kakslauttanen Hotel, Saariselka, Finland.

This hotel has a different approach to igloos. Contrasting from the traditional igloos, Kakslauttanen Hotel has glass igloos to view the beautiful starry night. You can also see the northern lights during the northern lights season from the third week of August until the end of April. Whats weird about this hotel is that they are quite open and it comes with both advantages and disadvantages, but I bet it'll be an amazing experience.

That's all for this week on weird hotels around the world.

The effects of media on children

The Effects of Media on Children.

Media is an amazing source of information for adults as well as children. This could be positive and negative to children.

Positive effects of media on children.

First, media provides children with knowledge at an early age.

For example, TV channels like National Geographic, Discovery and History educate children.

Secondly, media can inspire children to be better and dream bigger.

For example, The Dot by Peter Reynolds, Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio, and Odd Velvet by Mary Whitcomb.

Lastly, media like games help children develop their focus and thinking abilities.

For example, temple run and riddle games

Negative Effects of Media on Children

First, media exposes children to violence, sexual and substance abuse contents.

For example, cartoons like oggy and the cockroaches.

Secondly, media can affect the health of children.

For example, advertisements influence children to consume unhealthy products such as Coca-Cola, Pizza and Junk food.

Lastly, media facilitates laziness amongst children.

For example, by being entertained in the house through TV, games, internet and etc, children don't often go outside to play or be active.

In conclusion, media can have a positive and negative effect on children and its parent's responsibility to make sure that children don't get negatively influenced by media and use media in the right way.

That's all for the effects of media on children.

The Difference Between Print and Broadcast Media

Print and Broadcast Media:The Difference

Print Media and Broadcast Media are two different ways of getting information from one end to another. As they are different, they have differences. First, let's talk about print media. Print media is basically media that is printed on paper and its materials are physical. For example, books, magazines, newspapers, flyers, newsletters, scholarly journals, outdoor ads, yellow pages and many more. Printed media is also the oldest form of media.

Moving on, Broadcast media is a new form of media. Broadcast media involves spreading information through T.V and Radio.

Now, onto the topic, what are the differences between print and broadcast media?
Well, Print media provides information more in-depth compared to broadcast media. For example, advertisements on print media such as magazines have more information to them whereas, in broadcast media, they provide summarized information on a certain product/service because they have a time limit.

Tv Ads

Magazine Ads

Moreover, print media reaches through visual medium only. Whereas, broadcast media reaches their audience through visual and audiovisuals.

Print Media

Broadcast Media

Another difference between print media and broadcast media is that print media has better audience control than broadcast media. For example, readers of magazines can skip the pages they don't want to read whereas, the viewers/listeners of broadcast media cannot skip the ads they don't want to hear/watch. Besides that, print media turns out to be a more affordable resort to people in poverty. Because people in poverty may not be able to afford a television or radio.

Lastly, another difference between print and broadcast media is that new that are broadcasted can be more interesting than the news that is read in the newspaper as broadcasted new include live video footage and audio clips whereas, printed media isn't as fast.

That's all on the differences between printed and broadcast media.

Good Blogging Practice.

Good Blogging Practice

There are many blog sites on the internet nowadays and many people are interested in blogging about anything. Let it be their daily activities, travel blog, food and many more. So, among the blogs that I have used, I have found this one to be easier and low cost. Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the registered custom domain of the blogger (like www.example.com). A user can have up to 100 blogs per account. Up until May 1, 2010, Blogger allowed users to publish blogs on other hosts, via FTP. All such blogs had (or still have) to be moved to Google's own servers, with domains other than blogspot.com allowed via custom URLs. Unlike WordPress.com, Blogger allows its users to use their own domain free of charge, while WordPress.com charges around $13 to use a custom domain. Blogger cannot be installed on a web server. One has to use DNS facilities to redirect a custom URL to a blogspot domain. (Wikipedia) I have chosen to use Blogger because of its process which is easy to understand how to set up and create a blog. For example, on another blogging site, I wanted to create an account I had to go through a rather complicated process whereas in Blogger I just entered my email and created a blog entry. Furthermore, Blogger has a variety of designs that are attractive and it is also customizable to the blogger's liking. For example,

Moreover, Blogger has some helpful features in where I don't have to be worried on how many visitors I get, Blogger has a statistics feature where it counts the number of visitors I get on my page. For example,
Other than that, Blogger also allows you to earn money from it once you have been using it for at least six months, you have to be at least eighteen years old and your viewer statistics are fairly high you can apply for Adsense if you want to. Blogger makes it easier for you to access this through your webpage on the left side of your homepage. Heres an example.
Another thing I like about Blogger is that it also allows you to create a campaign in order to get more readers to get to know about your page and get more readers. But unlike a certain blogging website, Blogger gives you a choice to decide if you want to create a campaign or not. For example,
Although Blogger has a lot of good features, I'd say that their blogging experience can also improve a little. For example, they should make it so that in order to customize and add our own photo into the background we don't have to download the image and then add it to the blog. Instead, we could just add the URL to the image into the customizer and it would apply our chosen image into the background.

That's all for the review on the blogging site I have chosen. BLOGGER.

Strangely Wonderful

The world is a huge place. In a huge place,
there are strangely wonderful places everywhere.
Let's look at a few of them.

First, we'll look at the Spotted Lake in British Columbia, Canada.

Spotted Lake has long been revered by the native Okanagan (Syilx) people and it’s easy to see why they think of it as sacred. In the summer the water of the lake evaporates and small mineral pools are left behind, each one different in colour to the next. The unique lake can be viewed on Highway 3, northwest of the small town of Osoyoos, although visitors are asked not to trespass on tribal land. (Rachel Mills)

Salar de Uyuni is the next strange place located in Bolivia.

Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat. It is in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3 656 meters above sea level. The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness. The large area, clear skies, and exceptional flatness of the surface make the Salar an ideal object for calibrating the altimeters of Earth observation satellites. The Salar serves as the major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano and is a major breeding ground for several species of flamingos. It is said to be the world’s largest mirror as it mirrors everything above it. (Wikipedia)

Next up, Eternal Flame Falls, NY

This is a small waterfall placed in Western New York. The waterfalls base in the grotto emits natural gas which causes the flame to be lit. It can be extinguished but can be seen nearly year round.

Caño Cristales located in Colombia also quite strange.

This Colombian river turns red in the summer months. The river is commonly called the "River of Five Colours" or the "Liquid Rainbow," and is even referred to as the most beautiful river in the world due to its striking colours. The river bed is actually covered with a unique species of plant which causes it to turn to red. These plants are called Macarenia clavigera.

Last up is the Sea of Stars in the Maldives.

This beach comes to light at night. This glowing beach is caused by bioluminescent sea plankton which shines bright blue during the night. You can swim in this beach.

That's all for this blog. Await the next one.
